How
This Got Started
My research into the connections of various Beu family members
started when I came across an envelope addressed to my great-grandfather's
wife Elizabeth Beu (nee Thomas.) The sender was Bertha Ritter
(nee Beu) a daughter of Henry Beu, (aka Grospop) and thought to
be a cousin of Elizabeth's husband, Otto Beu. It appears that
Otto's father, Oscar Hubert, was a brother or first cousin of
Henry.
Getting to know more about
my family tree has been a lot of fun. Along the way I've found
people who, though they have the same last name respond on the
phone as though I were an unwelcome salesman calling at dinner
time and others have been very gracious and, although after talking
a while we discover we're not related, have said they enjoyed
the conversation and wished me well.
I've really appreciated
those who have shared family photos and documents with me during
my search. Several have welcomed me into their homes and others
continue to share information with me over the phone.
On the Beu side those who
have been particularly helpful are Eric Ritter, great grandson
of Grospop, and George Herbert Beu, of Sturbridge, MA, grandson
of Grospop. George M. Beu of Washington, DC and Joe Morris of
Philadelphia contributed solutions to key parts of the puzzle
and several others in that line have contributed, as well.
On my mom's side, those
who have helped a great deal with the Callahan line are Ina and
Gordon Pyle, of Boylston, Nova Scotia, where my mom's grandfather
was born in 1876. I visited that area in August of 2004 and Ina
and Gordon were very gracious hosts for the week I was there.
In fact, we discovered that Ina and I are related through the
Callahans. Also, they introduced me to a fellow by the name of
John Hall who was a wealth of information and enabled me to go
back to the original Callahan settlers in that area.
My mom's half-brother,
Bob McCafferty of Fair Oaks, California has been very helpful,
also.
